Who doesn't enjoy a Roast on a Sunday so why not come along and eat one with us? We meet at 12.30pm every 2nd Sunday of the month at restaurants north of the city which either incorporate a Sunday lunch or a carvery. Previous outings have included :
Coach & Horses Toby Carvery Churchillian Harvester Langbrooke Farm Golden Hind
This group is for members to meet and have lunch socially with a few other members of the group. Although we have around 50 members, each lunch is between 6 and 10 people.
Any member can book a table for 6, 8 or 10 people anywhere they like (eg a pub lunch), on whatever day they like. The details are then emailed to all other members of the group asking who would like go. As replies come in they are added to the table until it is full. You never know who the others will be until you get there!
It can be that several lunches each month are arranged.
Hello and welcome to the Dining Out group or “ladies wot lunch !”, although we would love to see some more gentlemen join us and please be assured “boys” you will receive a warm welcome. Sometimes it is a daunting task to dine alone in a restaurant so why not join us and be part of a convivial group and enjoy a good meal and perhaps with a beverage of your choice. We meet once a month at various restaurants around the city although mainly in Southsea and Gunwharf Quays.
There are so many eateries in and around this area sometimes we are spoilt for choice so any new suggestions are welcome. We have also dined at Southdowns College and Chimes, both of which are catering colleges for the next generation of chefs … so maybe you can say "I was there when …"!

We have visited new venues and re-visited old favourites. We have discovered the Ship and Castle and the Ship Anson down at the Hard. They both offer extremely good value for money with not only a carvery but an extensive menu for those who do not wish to have a big meal - however they will give you a "doggy" bag if you ask. This correspondent usually takes her own anyway!
Ideas for the summer months include fish and chips at The Deep Blue Restaurant at the end of the South Parade Pier and also Tiger Tiger - depending on the weather!
During warmer weather, we have visited Carluccios down at Gunwharf Quays for a lovely taste of The Mediterranean with an absolutely delicious Italian meal. Just picture it, music, wine and oodles of pasta and you could have been on the Amalfi Coast ... just a little imagination is all you need and of course ... bus pass travel.
We meet once a month on a Saturday morning as agreed by the group members. We hire a cookery classroom at the College and, because there are ten cookers in the classroom, the group is limited to ten members. We prepare dishes from the simple to the sophisticated - it just depends on what the members want to cook. The group consists of basic cooks to those with confidence and experience. We are a very friendly group who enjoy sharing their knowledge of food.
This group started in 2019 and we sample wines from around the world. Trying 3 bottles from whichever country we have decided upon. This could be a bottle of White, Rose or Red or 3 different Whites, or Reds for example, from Argentina. We discuss the merits of each one and write our findings on a Tasting Sheet, whilst having nibbles of cheese and crackers. We have a good small group, with lively discussion.
The host/s for a particular month is free to choose two/three wines - from a choice of of red, rose, and white (or sparkling). We have tried hard to vary the place of purchase, the country of origin - trying to keep the choices from the same country as a comparison but also comparing the same grape of say white or red from different countires. Most importantly to try to keep the cost below £10.00 per bottle, although this is proving more difficult. The host's choice of wine has proved very interesting since it gives everyone the opportunity to taste wines that they may have otherwise not thought about buying. Also, what was thought as a good buy was found to be best when drunk with food, or some are just ideal for sipping with friends with snacks etc. We have also found that some relatively inexpensive wines have proved very acceptable indeed.
We charge each person £5.00 for the evening and reimburse the host with the cost of the wines. The names of each member of the group is placed in 'the hat' so that the remainder of each bottle of wine is raffled. The profit for the evening can be used to pay for a visiting representative from a supplier as well as contributing towards the cost of either a summer dinner, a Christmas dinner (or both) or even a visit!
We are all able to relax and enjoy swapping views on the various wines chosen for a particular evening as well as discussing what we feel would contribute towards our further enjoyment and knowledge.
