Maths Puzzles

Status:Active, open to new members
When: Monthly on Tuesday mornings 10:00 am-12:00 pm
4th Tuesday
Venue: Members' Homes

This group started in April, 2022.

If you are one of the few who actually enjoyed maths at school and in your later life, then this group is for you.
Numbers, formulae, shapes and logic are fascinating things and have a beauty of their own which you can come to appreciate the more you work with them.
The group meets to share maths puzzles, solve them and discuss the solutions together.

Science

Status:Active, open to new members
When: Monthly on Thursday mornings 10:00 am-12:00 pm
4th Thursday morning
Venue: Springwood Community Centre, Waterlooville

The Science group dates back to the foundation of Waterlooville u3a in 2006. For several years meetings took place in members’ homes, moving to meet in Cowplain Business Centre in 2016 in response growing membership, but in 2017 a larger meeting room was needed as our group membership passed 25 and we met at the Sacred Heart. We now meet at the Springwood Community Centre with a group membership of just under 50.

Group members take turns to talk on a scientific or engineering topic of which they either already have background knowledge, or on a subject they have researched specially for the talk. However, we occasionally invite an outside specialist speaker and sometimes arrange visits to local sites of scientific interest.

Any Waterlooville u3a member interested in the activities of the Science Group should contact Group Liaison (see above) to arrange attendance at a "taster" meeting. Group members are expected to share the costs of hiring meeting rooms and any speakers - this is kept to a minimum.

Radio Hams

Status:Active, open to new members
When: Variable meeting times

This group started in September 2015.

Waterlooville u3a now has a section for Amateur Radio Enthusiasts. If any Wu3a members have licences please get in touch. On the other hand if anyone wants to learn what we are about then please contact Mark G4UVP or Group Liaison. Our aim is to enjoy radio communication both within our u3a and in the world at large.
